About this guide

Kiruna Tourism is an independent travel guide to Kiruna, Jukkasjärvi and Abisko in winter. It is written by Patrick Kühne, a travel publisher based in Germany who also runs guides to Tromsø and Rovaniemi.

Not the official tourist office

This site is not connected to the municipality of Kiruna, to LKAB or to the regional tourist office. The official tourist office is Kiruna Lapland, with its tourist center in the new town centre and its website at kirunalapland.se. For local services such as the mine tour, events or public transport, their pages have the last word.

Where the facts come from

Sun times, temperatures, distances, timetables, opening hours and dates on this site come from official sources: Kiruna Lapland, the Icehotel, Swedavia, the Swedish national parks, the Swedish Transport Agency, Svenska kyrkan, LKAB, the Swedish Tourist Association and the US Naval Observatory for sun and twilight times. Each page lists the sources it is based on. We checked them in October 2026.

When two sources disagree, we say so or leave the detail out.

How the site earns money

Tour cards and the comparison tables link to GetYourGuide and, for a few tours that are not listed there, to Viator. When you book through these links we receive a commission. Your price stays the same. Prices and ratings come from the booking platform and are not written by us.

We do not sell tours and we are not a tour operator. Questions about a booking go to the platform or to the operator named in the table.

How tours are chosen

We show tours that run in winter, start in or near Kiruna and fit the topic of the page. Duration, pickup, age limits and what is included come from the tour pages. A tour disappears from the site automatically when the platform stops listing it.

The photos are from Unsplash and illustrate the activities. Captions describe only what the picture shows and name the photographer.
